Challenges and Concerns in the Intermediate Stages of the Spiritual Path
Ego Resistance
Ego Resistance is a natural and necessary part of the spiritual journey. The ego is not an enemy to be defeated but a vital aspect of your being, functioning as the manager of defense mechanisms that were developed to help you navigate and survive your early environment. These defenses, while often rooted in the perceptions and needs of a child’s mind, served an essential purpose: they kept you safe.
The ego’s primary role is to maintain this sense of safety, and it will resist relinquishing control over these mechanisms until it trusts that the “adult” you is capable of protecting and sustaining your body and mind. This resistance is particularly strong in the early stages of spiritual work when a sense of self-solidarity is still being cultivated.
