Mutual Support Forum with Cielle Backstrom: The Role and Value of Prayer and Ritual on the Trillium Path

We use the term “Core Paradox” to refer to one’s landing in the mysterious reality that fundamentally, essentially I am the transcendent Ground of Being — that Ground of Being which underlies and gives rise to all creation. And I am a limited human. “Both/and”. A sacred marriage.

And further, this “both/and” gives rise to a sacred play between my divinity and my humanity.

In my life, this sacred play has taken the form of prayer and ritual. Prayer has been part of my life for more than 60 years. It has evolved. The first 12 years or so I was definitely the supplicant, hoping God or a celestial intermediary would grant me a boon. Sometimes it worked, like the time I bargained with the Virgin Mary. My side of the bargain was daily prayer to her during January, hoping that she would bring snow to the San Francisco Bay Area. It worked!!!! Wow.

How is my prayer life now? No longer the supplicant, more of a co-equal yet I feel there is something bigger than me that I pray to. I am a spark of a divine flame. Essentially the same fire but more limited. Just as I experience in my Whole Being Awakening that I am one with Source, I am also limited. And I sense that the Source I am one with doesn’t have the limits I have. I dialog with Source. The dialog is rich. A sacred marriage filled with reciprocal love. A relationship with a divine other, which is paradoxically me.

During this Mutual Support Forum, Cielle plans to speak briefly about some of her experiences of a non-denominational communion with Source and share inspiring quotes from various traditions. The conversation will then be opened to hearing from each who attends to share their relationship to prayer and ritual.

Attendance is capped at 12 participants. As Cielle offered something similar to teachers in the past, she has requested preference be given to non-teachers. (Teachers are welcome to register to be on a waitlist if space permits.)
